By putting up a design framework for an energy-efficient art gallery in Badagry, Nigeria, this project investigates the relationship between sustainable architecture and cultural expression. Badagry, which is renowned for its rich cultural legacy and historical significance, provides a special setting for fusing ecologically sensitive design with creative and collective identity. By using context-responsive design techniques, the project seeks to improve art lovers’ experiences while lessening gallery spaces’ negative environmental effects. The study explores how the general public views art and their preferences in gallery settings through surveys and user-based inquiry. Simultaneously, an examination of energy-efficient design best practices finds passive and active solutions that can be adjusted to Badagry’s tropical environment. A culturally sensitive architectural framework that balances sustainability, heritage preservation, and spatial functionality is informed by the findings.
Through the use of natural ventilation, daylighting, and material selection, the suggested design promotes energy efficiency while meeting user needs. This study adds to the larger conversation on sustainable cultural infrastructure and shows how architecture may be used to promote cultural continuity and environmental stewardship
