Electrosynthesis of Electrically Conducting Polyanthracene

Electrosynthesis of polyanthracene was carried out in acetone containing BF3O (C2H5)2 as a supporting electrolyte. The Silver like coating of polyanthracene was found to be deposited on the anode surface. The electrical conductivity of the polymer was found to be low ≈ 10-3 S cm-1, which lies in the range of semiconductor. Cyclic Voltammograms shows that the formation of polyanthracene was not properly reversible but irreversible. The mechanism of the polymerization was elucidated.
